The iPhone 12 series features a brand new design. The metal chassis has flat edges rather than the curved border that Apple introduced with the iPhone 6, and the glass on the iPhone 12 is perfectly flat as well. These changes are supposed to improve the iPhone’s durability and allow it to resist drops better than before. So, do you need a Sceren Protector to protect your iPhone 12?
The new iPhone 12 features the ‘Ceramic Shield’ in which it should deliver “4x better drop performance” according to Apple. There are many Youtube clips testing the claim and by all accounts Apple has made a stronger more durable display but still not 100% smash proof.
You might damage the screen from a lower height. Or you might damage the metal frame, and those dents and scuffs can be quite ugly. So, again: glass is glass and it can break, and polished metal can scuff. Your best bet is to use a protective case and a screen protector on top of the screen.
Apple have revealed it will cost $279 USD to repair the iPhone 12 screen and should you need the rear facing panel replaced it will cost you an eye watering $449 USD. You can help save yourself against these cost by purchasing a screen protector for the front and back here.
